Rooibos Tea
Rooibos Tea
Rooibos, also known as Asphalatus Linearis, is a bushy plant grown predominantly in the Cedarberg Mountains of the Western Cape. The leaves of the Rooibos plant are dried and then processed into a herbal tea. Rooibos tea was initially consumed almost exclusively in South Africa but is rapidly gaining global popularity. The tea is oxidised during processing which gives it a reddish-brown colour and enhances the flavour. It is usually consumed with milk and sugar.
Caffeine-Free Rooibos Tea
Rooibos tea is caffeine-free and contains very low levels of tannin. It is also free of oxalic acid which can lead to kidney stones. Antioxidants in Rooibos tea, such as aspalathin and quercetin, may reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.
The European Union and Germany in particular, is a major importer of Rooibos tea.
